MANUFACTURING AIDS AND TOOLS
Optimize your manufacturing processes
Manufacturing aids and tools are indispensable elements of assembly and manufacturing processes. They often account for a large percentage of product manufacturing expenditure. Additive manufacturing technologies can dramatically reduce both the costs and lead time on the manufacturing of a specific tool or aid.
TOOLING DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING SERVICES
Using our experience in additive manufacturing 3dl.tech designs individual assembly aids and tools as well as manufacturing tools. We manufacture the tools using 3D printing technologies with plastics and combine them with traditional manufacturing methods. The use of additive manufacturing technology is cost-efficient and reduces lead time for tooling preparation. This is of special importance particularly in the case of short-run manufacturing where cost-efficiency and quick response to product modifications are of essence.
New approach to Rapid Tooling combines Rapid Prototyping and CAD modelling, resulting in a quickly developing industry that supports manufacturing processes.
Rapid Tooling is deployed in two forms, namely direct and indirect tooling. Direct tooling produces functional tools, where the pattern consists of forming tools (punches and dies for metal sheet pressing and patterns for thermoforming process), laminate patterns, fixtures and non-standard manipulator arm effectors. Indirect tooling enables e.g. preparation of primary masters for silicone molds.
JIGS, FIXTURES AND CONTROL AIDS
Innovative approach to fixtures
Workpieces used to aid in assembly and control. Using 3D printing for the manufacture of a tool enables the nest for the element that is being machined or assembled to be shaped freely with savings coming from the reduction of machining complex geometries.
EXAMPLES
» Grips, jigs and fixtures » Gauges and control grips » Marking out and cutting tools
FORMING TOOLS
Economic forming tools
Currently used processes and materials for 3D printing allow for the fabrication of forming tools. We have manufactured several punches and dies for thin metal sheets and simple injection molds. Printed models also serve as master models in casting technology.
EXAMPLES
» Punches and dies for thin metal sheets » Simple 3D printed injection molds » Standard models for vacuum forming
We use 3D printing for tools and aids manufacturing to be able to respond to the client’s needs. SLS nad FDM are the technologies of choice for these applications.
